THE Oniba Ekun of Iba Kingdom, Oba Adeshina Suleiman Okikiola Raji Ashade, on Sunday, June 18, 2023, hosted the 2021/2022 Best Graduating Student in the Lagos State University (LASU), Aminat Yusuf, a Law student with a 5.0 CGPA breaking LASU’s 40-year history.
While speaking at the event, Oniba Ekun stated that Aminat’s feat was being celebrated not only to open doors of such greatness for his children but also to serve as an inspiration to young people in the kingdom that hard work pays.
The Oniba of Iba then presented her with a cheque of N2 million in the presence of other traditional rulers and chiefs, members of the University Management, and family members of Aminat, who had attended the event. This cash gift will add to the N500,000 awarded to her by the University Management on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, to commend her extraordinary performance.
Meanwhile, while speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, expressed her gratitude to God for making the day a reality and extended her appreciation to the Oniba for his numerous contributions to the development of LASU, a situation that informed his conferment with an Honorary Doctorate Degree by the Senate of the University.
On the invitation of the VC, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, from where Aminat graduated, Prof. Kareem Olatoye, praised her virtues as a diligent, consistent, and tenacious lady, who should be a role model to other young people. He also thanked the VC for providing a conducive environment for
Aminat and her colleagues to succeed.
Hon. Tolani Sule, a member of the Governing Council of LASU and a prominent son of Iba Kingdom, earlier in the event, had stated that the programme was organised to celebrate excellence and to thank Aminat for being an inspiration to others.
He then appreciated the University Management for facilitating a smooth rapport between the kingdom and the university.
Dignitaries present at the event include the former Commissioner for Transport, Dr Kayode Opeifa, Chief (Mrs) Yeside Fagbohun, the Kings of Akesan and Isolo Kingdoms, traditional rulers from surrounding communities, officials of the University, and members of the Oniba’s immediate and extended families. It should be noted that on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at the Convocation Ceremonies of the University, Aminat Yusuf will join over 10,000 others, who will be conferred with the Award of Diplomas, First Degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas, and Masters Degree.
