IN a recent interview with Channels TV, popular Nigerian actress, Adunni Ade, opened up about the challenges of finding acting roles due to her skin type.

The actress, who has a Nigerian father and Irish ancestry, expressed that scripts are not written for people who look like her, noting that her inability to get acting roles pushed her into filmmaking.

The actress also highlighted the difference between being light-skinned and having her unique appearance. She acknowledged that individuals who are light-skinned may still face challenges, but they have more opportunities, compared to her.screenshot_20240308_080221 

However, rather than allowing these difficulties to deter her, the actress has taken matters into her own hands by pursuing a career as a producer. She shared that the lack of roles she desired pushed her towards filmmaking. One of her core principles as a producer is to cast individuals based on their talent and humanity, regardless of their colour.

She believed that everyone deserved a chance on her set. In her words, "One of the core things I said I will never do is to cast someone based on their colour. Everybody, anybody, as long as you are human, you will always have a chance on my set."
