A performance by Afrobeats star, Spyro during a church event, has led to controversies.

Recall that Spyro recently sang his hit song ‘Only Fine Girl, during an event at The Harvesters International Christian Centre.

While some questioned the alignment of the song with Christian principles, others argued that the concept of the event was a stage play.

As a result, some netizens also questioned the Lead Pastor of the church, Pastor Bolaji Idowu, over the performance.

An X user sharing the video wrote: “Is this proper to sing in a church? I like Pastor B o but I don’t know what to say about this.”

Commenting on the post, MarvelAngulu wrote, “I think the spiritual father or oversight of the pastor of this church needs to talk to them.”

Exploitsfemi027 said: “The same people telling us the church has no business with emancipating people politically. It’s just misplaced priorities. Standing for nothing, falling for anything.”

“Gradually, we are diluting the church with worldly songs. It doesn’t matter the title of the drama,” DrTambari added.

However, supporting the programme, X user, Big_Beeh said, “I’m not Pastor B’s defender but there was context to this performance. It was a stage play, more like a musical, and different people came to impress the King depicting King Herod in the Bible and how he was merciless, he took off Spyro’s head after this performance. For you to have this recording, it means you watched it and knew there was context to it.”

Timmydennyd said, “You all should be calming down. This is obviously a drama or stage play. Your reflex to bash things people is too high fgs.”

Reacting to the backlash, Nollywood actor and film producer, Daniel Etim Effiong clarified that the event, featuring Spyro and other celebrities, was not a Sunday service but a free-to-register musical stage play titled “#HarvestersNG Fantasia 2023: A Christmas Musical.”

He said: “Let’s set the records straight. I was the producer of #HarvestersNG Fantasia 2023: A Christmas Musical that featured Harvesters members like Spyro, Skales, Dorathy Bachor, myself, and a host of others. IT WASN’T A SUNDAY SERVICE, IT WAS A (FREE TO REGISTER) MUSICAL STAGE PLAY!!!”

Spyro, Nollywood movie stars like Sharon Ooja, Bisola Aiyeola, Daniel Etim Effiong, Uzor Azukwe, and Dorathy Bachor, among others were present at the event.
