CENTRE for Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development (CESSED) in collaboration with the School of Transport and Logistics (SOTAL)at Lagos State University has organised the first annual workshop on "Sustainable Motor Park Management in Lagos State."
This collaborative effort between CESSED and LASU School of Transport and Logistics (SOTAL) held on Wednesday, May 22 and Thursday, 23, 2024, brought together experts, stakeholders, and practitioners to discuss innovative strategies for Sustainable Motor Park Management in the State.

The two-day workshop was held at the Femi Gbajabiamila Conference Centre in LASU, main campus, Ojo. The event was officially opened by LASU's Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, who emphasised the timeliness of the workshop in addressing critical environmental challenges in the transportation and motor park sectors, such as congestion, pollution, and safety concerns.
The keynote speaker, Hon. Shakirudeen Olusola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, highlighted the Government's commitment to modernising transportation and transforming motor parks into bus terminals while focusing on environmental impact.
Other speakers addressed a range of topics, which includes causes of problems within and outside the union, and possible solutions; future trends in sustainable motor park management in Lagos; history, evolution, purpose, and resources of motor parks; drivers' behaviour, training, and competence; basic first aid, sanitation, and vehicle security in motor parks; and traffic laws and the use of bus stops and lay-bys.
The workshop also provided a platform for showcasing existing and proposed short programmes and certificate courses offered by LASU SOTAL, in collaboration with LASU Consult and international universities.
The event was attended by members of the University management team, as well as representatives from various organisations, including the Tricycle Riders and Operation of Nigeria, Road Transport Employers Association (RTEAN), LAMATA, and FRSC. The workshop concluded with a Q&A session, a presentation of awards, and group photo opportunities.
