Directorate of Internal Audit conducts in-house training for staff

The training session was aimed at enhancing the proficiency and effectiveness of its staff members in carrying out their responsibilities.

LASU's Directorate of Internal Audit organised an in-house training session on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, aimed at enhancing the proficiency and effectiveness of its staff members in carrying out their responsibilities.

The training, held at the University Multimedia Centre Conference Room in Ojo, Lagos, focused on the theme "The Roles of 21st Century Auditors in Public Institutions."

Mrs Margaret Ogunkoya, the Director of the Directorate, expressed her appreciation to the training committee for organising the event. In her welcome address, she emphasised the vital role played by internal auditors in organisations and stressed the importance of being familiar with global auditing standards.

Ogunkoya then urged the staff members to enhance their audit expertise and stay ahead in their field.

On his part, the Chairman of the Training Committee and Chief Executive Officer of Internal Audit, Mr R. A. Hassan, highlighted the objectives of the in-house training, which included updating knowledge, improving performance, and staying abreast of new developments in the audit profession.

He urged the staff to pay close attention to the resource persons and emphasised the need for auditors to adhere to established auditing guidelines and maintain professional integrity.

The training featured three resource persons who shared their expertise with the participants. Hon. Ambali Abiodun, the Special Adviser to the Speaker, House of Assembly, Lagos State on Budget Affairs, delivered a presentation on "Modern Audit Functions and Driving Institutional Efficiency Through Internal Audit Department in a University System."

Mr Said Babatunde Olayinka, the University Bursar, spoke about "Navigating the Internal Audit Landscape of a University System," emphasising the importance of professionalism and collaboration among auditors.

Mr Salawu Saidi, the Chief Internal Auditor of the Directorate of Internal Audit, Lagos State University, discussed "Internal Control Features: Application and Essence in a University Setting," emphasising the need for robust internal control systems to prevent misappropriation of institutional resources.

The training session concluded with closing remarks and a vote of thanks by Mr Moshood Taiwo, the Chief Internal Auditor. The event was well-attended, and the participants gained valuable insights into the evolving roles of auditors in public institutions, ensuring they are equipped to meet the challenges of the 21st century audit landscape.
