FSS to host maiden Africa-China research conference

The conference will explore the theme "Knowledge (Re)production and the Academe in Africa-China Research Space" and promises to be a significant gathering for scholars and researchers.

THE Faculty of Social Sciences at the Lagos State University is set to host the inaugural Nigeria Africa-China Research Group (NiACReG) Conference on Tuesday, May 7 and Wednesday, May 8, 2024.

The conference will explore the theme "Knowledge (Re)production and the Academe in Africa-China Research Space" and promises to be a significant gathering for scholars and researchers.

The conference will take place at the Aderemi Makanjuola Lecture Hall on the Main Campus in Ojo, Lagos, by 9:00 am. The event will span two days, allowing for an in-depth exploration of the chosen theme. 

The esteemed Chairperson for the conference is Prof. Philip Afaha, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja. Prof. Afaha brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role, ensuring the smooth running of the event.

Two distinguished Lead Speakers have been invited to share their expertise with the conference attendees. The first Lead Speaker is Dr Efem Ubi, the Acting Director of Research and Studies at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs. Dr Ubi's insights and perspectives on the Africa-China research landscape are highly anticipated.

The second Lead Speaker is Dr Outi Luova, the Director of the Finnish University Network of Asian Studies and Vice Director at the Centre for East Asian Studies, University of Turku, Finland. With her extensive background in Asian studies, Dr Luova will provide valuable insights into the academic engagement between Africa and China.

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) is chaired by Prof. Jameelah Yaqub, ensuring the efficient coordination of the various conference activities. Prof. Olufemi Lawal, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, is the Host of the event, spearheading the organisation and logistics to ensure a successful conference.

The Chief Host of the conference is Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University. Prof. Olatunji-Bello's leadership and support are instrumental in bringing together scholars, researchers, and experts to foster dialogue and collaboration in the Africa-China research realm.

The Nigeria Africa-China Research Group Conference promises to be a landmark event, providing an intellectual platform for scholars, researchers, and participants to engage in discussions, share knowledge, and explore opportunities for further research collaboration. This conference signifies a significant step in promoting academic exchanges and understanding between Africa and China.
