LASU holds orientation programme for newly admitted part-time students

The event aimed to acquaint the students with the University's facilities and provide guidance for their academic journey in the 2023/2024 academic session.

ON Wednesday, April 3, 2024, the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, delivered an inspiring speech to the newly admitted part-time students during an orientation programme organised by the Directorate of Part-Time Studies. The event aimed to acquaint the students with the University's facilities and provide guidance for their academic journey in the 2023/2024 academic session.

The orientation was held at the Aderemi Makanjuola Lecture Theatre, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olufunsho Omibitan, Prof. Olatunji-Bello congratulated the students on gaining admission to the renowned institution of higher learning, assuring them of a rewarding educational experience that would equip them for success in their chosen fields.

Addressing the gathering, the Professor of Physiology emphasised the importance of self-discipline and encouraged the students to make the most of the opportunities provided by the university. She assured them that their welfare was a top priority for the institution, highlighting the commitment to maintaining a conducive learning environment with adequate security measures.

Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello also mentioned the availability of modern facilities, such as lecture theatres, laboratories, sports and recreational centres, as well as audio-visual teaching aids and electronic boards to enhance their academic excellence.

In his address, the Director of the Directorate of Part-time Studies, Prof. Danoye Oguntola-Laguda, urged the newly admitted students to remain focused and dedicated to their studies. He emphasised the Directorate's commitment to ensuring their success and encouraged them to strive for positive contributions that would bring pride to the University, the State, and the Nation.

During the orientation programme, several speakers delivered talks on various topics. Dr Emmanuel A. FANU, the Registrar, represented by Mr Kabiru Okugbesan, the Deputy Registrar (Admissions), spoke about "The System of Administrative Records in the University." Mr Said Babatunde Olayinka, the University Bursar, represented by Mr David Ogunde, discussed "Your Financial Details in the University." Dr Omawunmi Orighomisan Makinde, the University Librarian, represented by Barrister (Mrs) Harriet Dapo-Asaju, highlighted "The University Library as the Nerve Centre of Academic Activities." Dr Fatai-Abatan Abiodun, the Acting Dean of the Students' Affairs Division, addressed the students on the "Students' Code of Conduct, Rules, and Regulations."

Other notable speakers included Prof. Toyin Enikuomehin, the Director of the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology, who shared insights on "Rules Guiding Registration, Examination, and the Role of Information Technology in Achieving High Academic Standards," and Dr Joseph Ayeni, the Head of the Careers and Counselling Unit, who provided guidance on "Managing Your Career in the University."

The orientation programme culminated with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Seun Babalola, the Deputy Director of the Directorate of Part-Time Studies.

The orientation programme served as a valuable platform for the students to familiarise themselves with the University's resources and expectations. With the guidance provided by the administration and the wealth of opportunities available at Lagos State University, the newly admitted part-time students are poised to embark on a successful academic journey and achieve their goals.
