LASU hosts career clinic for penultimate, final year students

ON Thursday, March  14, 2024, the Students' Affairs Division of Lagos State University (LASU) organised a one-day Career Clinic for Penultimate and Final Year Students of the institution at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, situated on the main campus in Ojo, Lagos.

While speaking at the event, Mr Adewole Adesete, the Manager of Human Resource Services at Nestle Nigeria Plc, highlighted the plethora of opportunities available to Nigerian youths through the "Alliance for Youth" initiative. Formed in August 2021, the Alliance's primary objective is to equip 250,000 young Nigerians with employability and entrepreneurial skills, facilitating their entry into the workforce or enabling them to establish their businesses within a few years.

Emphasising the significance of investing in the youth, Adesete stressed that providing employment and entrepreneurship opportunities can address the socio-economic challenges faced by unemployed youths in the country. He announced that, since its inception, the Alliance for Youth initiative had already impacted over 27,000 young Nigerians through employability and entrepreneurial training, internships, and job placements.

On his part, Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, the Acting Dean of the Students' Affairs Division, represented by Mrs Zainab Ashiru-Mobolaji, the Deputy Registrar of the Division, expressed his appreciation to the University's management for their commitment to student welfare.

Dr Fatai-Abatan reiterated the University's dedication to equipping students with the necessary skills for success, aligning with the objectives of the Alliance for Youth Nigeria. He emphasised the importance of making informed career choices based on passion and interest rather than solely on financial gain, underscoring the pivotal role such decisions play in shaping individuals' future success.

The seminar featured a lineup of facilitators, including Mr Bernard Sanya, Quality Assurance Manager at Nestle Nigeria Plc, who discussed Career Positioning. Ms Jessica Ochuko, Consultant HR Integration at UN Global Company, shared insights on Developing Interpersonal Skills and Mr Esho Oluwajuwonlo, Senior Youth Engagement and Engagement Associate at Jobberman Nigeria, focused on Personal Brand Marketing.

Mr Lanre Coleman, General Manager of U-Connect HR Ltd, delved into the intricacies of Building Winning Resumes and Chibueze Egbeogu, IT Lead at Nestle Nigeria Plc, shed light on Essential Tech Skills.

The event was concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr Ibrahim Popoola, Senior Assistant Registrar of the Students' Affairs Division, marking the successful culmination of an enriching and enlightening seminar.
