LAGOS State University Consult Limited has held its second matriculation ceremony for the 2023/2024 diploma and certificate students. The event took place at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, LASU main campus, Ojo, Lagos, on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Olufunso Omobitan, who presided over the ceremony.
In her address, the Vice-Chancellor reiterated LASU's commitment to being a student-centred institution focused on grooming great leaders and developing the character of its students. She advised the newly admitted diploma students to strive for academic excellence, abide by University rules, and demonstrate a strong work ethic to qualify for the full-time undergraduate program.
The Vice-Chancellor also urged the students to attend classes regularly, avoid misconduct, and refrain from examination malpractice, corruption, and other vices.
The Director of LASU Consult Limited, Prof. Ibrahim Bakare, disclosed that this was the second matriculation ceremony organised for diploma and certificate students since the establishment of LASU Consult in 2019. He stated that the consult now oversees 85 diploma and certificate programmes, including new offerings in Computer Science and Data Science.
Prof. Bakare encouraged the students to build on their ideas, set goals, and develop determination to secure a better future. He also advised them not to be discouraged by societal challenges and to always do what is right.
The event featured a motivational talk by Mr Olushola Olumide from the Bursary Department, who spoke on "Maximising Your Potentials" and highlighted the importance of self-discovery, self-development, and self-demonstration.
The Registrar, Mr Emmanuel A. Fanu, administered the matriculation pledge and representatives from the various faculties signed the Matriculation Register on behalf of the students.
Other notable attendees included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Adenike Boyo; the Bursar's representative, Mr Taiwo Omoyin; the University Librarian, Dr Omawunmi Makinde; members of the LASU Consult Board and LASU Governing Council; and staff from various LASU departments, as well as students, parents, and well-wishers.
