LASUIS holds 3rd Inter-House sports competition

After an intense display of athlete prowess, Isiaka Oluwa( blue) House emerged as the overall winner of the competition.

LAGOS State University International School (LASUIS) has held its highly anticipated third Inter-House Athletics Competition, with the biennial sporting event taking place at the Sports Centre of the Lagos State University main campus in Ojo, Lagos.

Before the commencement of the competition on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, the Vice Chancellor of LASUIS, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, who was represented by Prof. J. A. Jimoh, officially declared the event open and extended her best wishes to the young participants. She emphasised the importance of sports as one of the fundamental pillars of education and encouraged the competitors to display the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the competition.

In her speech, Prof. Ayodeji Badejo, the Chairman of the LASUIS Board, welcomed parents, guardians, pupils, and teachers to the third edition of the Inter-House Athletics Competition. She urged the pupils to give their best and strive for excellence in the competition.

On his part, the Principal of LASUIS, Mr Taiwo Odumbo, noted that all participants were winners regardless of their final positions. He encouraged everyone to enjoy the event regardless.

The competition kick-started with the March Past, where Wine House's exceptional display garnered them a score of 95% and secured them the first position in the March Past category. Green House secured the second position with 90%, followed by Yellow House in third place with 83%, and Blue House in fourth place with 76%.

After the March Past, the athletes took to the field to compete in various events, including the 100 meters, 200 meters, parents' walking race, old student race, and staff race.

After the highly attended competition, which saw parents, the University Management team, and school staff in attendance, Isiaka Oluwa (Blue) House emerged as the overall winner with a remarkable tally of 19 Gold, 12 Silver, and 15 Bronze medals.

Omotayo Seriki (Wine) House secured the second position with 15 Gold, 13 Silver, and 6 Bronze medals. J.K Randle (Green) House claimed the third position with 10 Gold, 12 Silver, and 13 Bronze medals, while Akin-Kekere Ekun (Yellow) House finished in fourth place with 9 Gold, 19 Silver, and 19 Bronze medals.

The outstanding houses were presented with trophies and medals in recognition of their achievements.

Dignitaries present at the event included the representative of the Bursar, Mr Emmanuel Olaitan-Sosu, the Director of Works and Physical Planning, Engr S. O. Kazeem, and other members of the LASUIS Board, including Deputy Director of Works & Physical Planning, Engr (Dr) Waliu Odukaiye, Prof. Gbenu J. P., Dr Oludare Olufowobi, Mrs Basirat O. Oyediran, and Mrs Yewande Odeyemi.
