IN a remarkable academic collaboration, Dr Olawunmi Oni-Buraimoh, an Associate Professor from the Department of English at Lagos State University (LASU), took the stage on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) students orientation to present the findings of a groundbreaking project funded by the British Council.

The event, held at the 500-seater hall of the institution, saw an enthusiastic turnout of students who attended the orientation in three batches.8276

Dr Oni-Buraimoh, a seasoned academician and expert in her field, delivered a compelling presentation to the students. As the Lead Researcher in the British Council-funded project, she addressed a critical issue affecting university campuses in Nigeria – sexual violence. The findings of the project, focused on "Preventing Sexual Violence on University Campuses in Nigeria," were presented to the students in a video tagged "GREENLIGHT and Sexual Harassment."8277

The students who attended the orientation in three separate batches showed keen interest in the video presentation. The hall echoed with rapt attention as they absorbed the crucial information provided in the. The video, a culmination of rigorous research and analysis, emphasised that greenlights, like smiles, hugs, or friendliness, are mere assumptions and consent should be sought before sexual intimacies between parties.8278

To facilitate a deeper understanding of the project's findings, Dr Oni-Buraimoh urged the students to visit the project's official website to gain insights into the research's key findings and recommendations aimed at curbing sexual violence within the University setting.8279

Dignitaries present at the event include the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Ademola Aderogba, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, and the Registrar, Mr David Ogungbe, alongside other top officials of LASUSTECH.8275
