LCDC holds employability training at 2024 Lagos Career Fair

To equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge for success in the job market, the Lagos State University Career Development Centre (LCDC) collaborated with the Fasttrack Academy and Recruit Tech by Bossmeek to organise the anticipated 2024 Lagos Career Fair.

LAGOS State University Career Development Centre (LCDC) in collaboration with the Fasttrack Academy and Recruit Tech by Bossmeek hosted the inaugural 2024 Lagos Career Fair at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja on Thursday, May 9, 2024.

The event, held under the theme of "Building Resilience, Employability Skills, and Positioning for Growth," was well-attended by Managing Directors, Chief Executive Officers, Human Resource Experts, students of the Lagos State University, and corps members.

Dr Medinat Osundiya, the Deputy Director of the Lagos State University Career Development Centre, expressed her gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, and the event organisers in her address. Dr Osundiya urged the students and corps members to actively engage with the CEOs present, asking questions, and networking to learn from their wealth of knowledge and make the most of the opportunity.

The keynote speaker, Otunba Kazeem Olayemi Odeyeyiwa, CEO of Repton Groups, delivered a lecture on the essential employability skills required to stand out in the labour market. He emphasised the importance of strong and effective communication skills, interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, analytical and problem-solving skills, self-management, and ethical awareness.

Furthermore, he enlightened the students and prospective job seekers on the significance of positioning themselves correctly for job opportunities. He advised them to explore various avenues, including close networks, self-development, building a solid reputation, and networking.

The career fair featured panel sessions with Human Resource Experts and Managing Directors. Dr Igot Ofem, the Acting Director of the Lagos State University Centre for Response and Prevention of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (LASU CRPSGBV), was among the panellists. She shared her career journey as a human capital development expert and shed light on the initiatives undertaken by LASU CRPSGBV to combat sexual harassment in the workplace and on campus.

In recognition and appreciation of its contributions and support for the Lagos Career Fair 2024, the LASU CDC was presented with an award.

The event proved to be a valuable platform for LASU students and corps members to enhance their employability skills, gain insights from industry professionals, and expand their professional networks.
